1. Metcalfe County, KY
Looking for a spot in the bluegrass state?
Metcalfe County is located in southern Kentucky and is home to several landmarks, including The Cut and the Devil’s Den Cave.
2. Rio Arriba, NM
Fun fact, when this county was part of the Territory of New Mexico, it spanned to present-day Las Vegas.
Even better, you won’t be far from both Albuquerque and Santa Fe in this affordable county.
There are also four national protected areas, including the Santa Fe National Forest.
3. Fulton County, AR
Fulton County is located in the Ozarks near the border with Missouri.
It has a very low cost of living and numerous outdoor activities to enjoy.
It is also the spot of one of the world’s largest springs!
4. Klamath County, OR
Klamath County is located in southern Oregon near the border of California.
It is also the fourth-largest county in Oregon.
For nature lovers, Klamath County is home to 9 national protected areas, including Crater Lake National Park.
5. Sharp County, AR
Sharp County is not far from Fulton County and is also located in the Ozarks.
For history buffs, the town of Hardy has several buildings in the National Register of Historic Places.
There are also a number of resort communities in this county.
6. Alamosa County, CO
Love sandboarding?
Alamosa is famous for the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.
It is also not far from the Rio Grande National Forest.
So, if you are looking for a spot near a number of great National Parks, this may be the county for you!
7. Navajo County, AZ
This northern Arizona county is right in the middle of the painted desert.
For history buffs, Navajo County was where the Pleasant Valley War occurred in the late 1800s.
This was a range war between two ranching families, the Grahams and the Tewksburys.
8. Valencia County, NM
Valencia County is just to the south of Albuquerque.
Fun fact, it holds the US record for predicting presidential election winners!
It is also home to several national protected areas, including the Cibola National Forest.
9. Luna County, NM
Luna County has a real history with the entertainment industry going back to 1953’s “The Tall Texan.”
The historic downtown of Deming dates back to the 1800s and is the perfect backdrop for western movies!
The county is also home to desert landscapes and the Florida Mountains.
And These Aren’t All
But don’t limit your search to just the above counties.
There are plenty of other counties in the US where you can find affordable land.
